Huck Finn reader response # 3

Huck Finn reader response # 3

1. I think the whole house in general impressed huck everything that was in it and how much detail there was ( page 75 paragraph 3 " It was a mighty nice family and a mighty nice house too I hadn’t seen no house in the country before that was so nice and had so much style" there was, One thing Huck seemed most interested in was the clock with the picture of the town painted on it and the sun, The clock had two parrots on each side with a cat by one and a dog by another, He seemed to think it was weird that when the parrots made nosie they didn’t open there mouths or move, Some other things that huck seemed impressed about was the brass door handles and the big brick fire place also the table cloth with the eagle painted on it.(pg. 76 paragraph 2 "The table had a cover made out of beautiful oil-cloth with a red and blue spread-eagle on it and a painted border all around." I don’t think huck is used to being around people and things that are so close and have so much meaning these people put so much work into making there home nice and welcoming, I think Huck is seeing how happy and put together there people are and how successful they are.

2.Huck seems very interested in the books In the Grangerford’s home. How perfect they were stacked up and how they were all together, There were a lot of books of all different kinds in one place ones about god, bibles, pilgrims, poetry, speeches, books on medicine and more, I think Huck wasn’t used to this much of a choice in books with the window the only thing he ever read and learned about was the bible and his dad never threw a book at him and said hey you read. So he didn’t even no there were these many books about all these different things and he was interested in just what all of them were about. (Page 76 paragraph 2 "I read considerable in it now and then" Huck’s view of education and Mark Twain’s are both similar and different Mark grew up getting a good education and knowing he would need one and it was something he probably wanted, Huck He probably doesn’t take education as seriously as Mark does but he’s slowly but surely finding out that it’s a good thing to have.

3. The thing that is so weird and unique with the poems and the scrap books were the poems were always sad and really deep in a depressing way and the scrap books had pictures of accidents and people suffering, It seems the girl was obsessed with death, The one painting of the girl with six arms about to jump off the bridge probably had a lot of meaning in it. Twain describes it so specifically because it was her last drawing and probably one of the scarier ones It was the one that people weren’t so sure about because they didn’t know what the girl way trying to say or feeling with all of her arms. If the arms down meant hell or the arms up meant heaven no one knew because she never got a chance to finish it.( Page 77 paragraph 1 "These were all nice pictures I reckon but I didn’t somehow seem to take to them because if ever I was down a little they always give me the fan-tods" I think Mark twain’s view of death was complected he wasn’t sure of it He wasn’t quite sure in what he believed in when you died., He Knew suicide was something that people felt strong upon but not so sure why people did it. Mark probably thought art was a beautiful thing and pictures of death had so much feeling in it but yet so unknown he is amazed by it. Huck was so touched by this art cause it was unlike a lot of others not many people have the courage or the right pain and feeling to draw death and it actually have an affect on people and her drawings I think had an affect on Huck.

Huck Finn response 2

Reader Response 2: Huck Finn (7-13)
Huck is influenced by Tom Sawyer Huck seems as if he idolizes Tom and the things that he does. But sometimes all the stuff Tom does isn’t the best influence’s on Huck. such as going on the boat with Jim. (pg. 50 paragraph 4 "do you reckon Tom Sawyer would ever go by this thing? Not for pie, he wouldn’t he’d call it an adventure- that’s what he’d call it and he’d land on that wreck as if it were his last act" Jim knew it wasn’t a good idea, Huck Knew as well He knew he could be putting his life in danger by doing it and he knows the consequences but then thinks "what would Tom Sawyer do? So Huck does it anyways and usually gets in trouble or in a predicament for what he does it.

Huck is influenced by Widow Douglas as well. The widow is a good influence on Huck she took him in and actually cared for him she tried to give Huck an education and teach him from right from wrong. also When pap took Huck away she tried to get him back so she must have cared if she wanted him and you could tell that she was worried when Huck faked his death, As much as Widow Douglas was a good influence Huck didn’t think so after he lived with his dad though (pg.18 paragraph 3 "It was kind of lazy and jolly, laying off comfortable all day, smoking and fishing no books nor study. Two months or more run along and my clothes got to be all rags and dirt, and I didn’t see how I’d ever got to like it so well at the widows, Where you had to was, and eat on a plate, and comb up, and go to bed and get up regular and be forever bothered over a book"

Pap is actually probably the best influence on Huck even through what Pap is doing is not right Pap shows Huck what Whisky does even though he doesn’t mean it (pg 22 paragraph 3) "by and by he rolled out and jumped on to his feet looking wild and he see me and went for me. He chased me round and round thee place with a clasp-knife calling em the angel of death and saying he was kill me then I wouldn’t come for him no more" It shows how stupid and crazy it can actually make a person to actually try to harm you own son, Also the way that pap beats Huck (pg.18 paragraph 4 "by and by pap got too handy with his hick’ry and I couldn’t stand it. I was all over in welts" Huck see’s the person that pap is and doesn’t want to be like that.

Jim is a good influence on Huck He follows directions and doesn’t like to get in trouble. When Huck pointed out the wreck Jim thought it was a bad idea to go on it (pg.50 paragraph 3 "I doan want to go fool’n long er no wrack. We’s doin blame well en we better let blame well alone as de good book says like as not dey’s a watchman on dat wrack" Jim sets good examples for Huck as an adult he knows what best and Huck should look up to that. Also Jim is helping Huck and Huck is helping him he could show huck that blacks are people too.

Huck Finn 10/10/07

Page 15 paragraph 4
Quote from book
"Ain’t you a sweet-scented dandy, though? A bed; and bedclothes; and a look’n-glass; and a piece of carpet on the floor- and your own father got to sleep with the hogs in the tanyard. I never see such a son. I bet I’ll take some o’ these frills out o’ you before im done with you. Why there ain’t no end to your airs- they say you’re rich. Hey?- how’s that?"
Quote in own words
Look at you all cleaned up and handsome, you have a bed to sleep in and clothes to sleep in, a house and windows, and you even have carpet on your floor but me your own father has to sleep out on the streets, I’ve never seen my son so joyful But I’ll take some of that out of you when I get custody of you, there isn’t no end to your joyful life, they say your rich now How is it?

Personal response
This theme is related to relationship with parents Huck Finn is seeing his dad for the first time in years and that quote is one of the first things he says to him he says it meaning look at you after all these years your rich, in clean clothes and have a better life then I did when I was growing up and you even have a better life then me now but once I get you ill treat you and raise you how I was raised cause you’re my son. I think Huck’s dad is jealous oh Huck’s life because its better then his ever was. I can relate to Huck Finn cause I know what its like to have this really nice life and someone just takes it away, like how I lived with my mom till I was fourteen years old then one day I just started living this whole other life with different rules and aspects with my dad and not to sure if I was going to like it.

Literary Analysis
In the quote I think Mark Twain was trying to point out that Huck’s dad had a very harsh life growing up as a kid. Maybe his own father beat him or something happened to him when he was little, He’s one of those greedy people who only think of them selves and think if they never had it either should anyone else, Marks theme was to get an evil first impression of this man, show he was not friendly. I mean who wouldn’t want the best for there kid. What parent wouldn’t want there child to have an education and wouldn’t want them to be able to read and write?, I relate to Mart Twain because I have meet some pretty greedy people growing up my uncle Dave used to steal money from my cousins (his two daughters) and I thought it was just mean and Horrible that a dad would do that.

Q- do you think african american and white americas talk different
A- Yes I do i think most african american speech and white american speech is different from each other.

Q- if so do you think one is wrong?
A- In some ways yes and in some ways no, I think the way some white people talk is the correct way, black people speek correct but use more slang and sometimes when people use alot of slang it makes them seem un educated, both are correct most people speek how they were brought up to speek though. so what sounds right to one person might sound wrong to another.
